Every year the U.S. Forest Service is charged with delivering an 80-foot evergreen tree to the American people to serve as the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree. Chosen from a national forest somewhere in country the tree, commonly called the People’s Tree is a symbol of our great national heritage of environmental conservation and preservation.
For the past three years it has been my piviledge and honor to accompany the People’s tree from the site of its harvest across the country to where it is delivered to the grounds of the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C. Fans and followers of the project may remember my coverage of the trees from the Chugach National Forest in Seward, Alaska in 2015 and the Payette National Forest in McCall, Idaho in 2016. This year the U.S. Capitol Christams Tree will come from the Kootenai National Forest in Libby Montana. Through photographs, videos and blog posts I tell the story of the People’s tree as well as the importance of preserving our precious natural resources on public land for everyone to enjoy.
This year I’m bumping up the production values just a bit and I need your help. Through your contributions on Kickstarter I aim to create a series of limited edition photo prints and a complete photo album of our journey. These items will be suitable for framing and a fabulous gift just in time for Christmas. By sharing this wonderful experience I want bring a little joy to every corner of America.
Your contribution will help to cover the cost of my travel from Montana to Washington D.C. and provide enough start-up capital for a first print run of books. If we can sell enough copies in advance, we will substantially reduce the cost of production and assure timely delivery by December 25th.
