On October 27, 2015 the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree was harvested in the Chugach National Forest near the town of Seward, Alaska. This spectacular Lutz Spruce will stand on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington D.C. as a timely symbol of peace and unity for the American People.
The meticulous process of carefully selecting, cutting and transporting the People’s Tree on a journey of more than 3,000 miles over land and sea represents the hard work and dedication of hundreds of men and women across the country. In cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service and many generous corporate sponsors the nonprofit Choose Outdoors makes possible this remarkable gift as a celebration of our long and enduring national heritage of environmental protection.
JTPCCT20151028-5Choosen from a different National Forest each year the People’s Tree is an excellent reminder of why it is important to properly maintain and utilize our precious natural resources. Though this majestic tree was taken from the forest where it was raised, it will reach to great heights as an icon of conscientious land management and hopefully boost the national awareness of our public wilderness areas that are the natural birthright of every American citizen.
The People’s Tree will help to perserve millions of trees across a vast national landscape of public land for generations yet to come. Special thanks to Alaska Crane for helping to get this project off the ground!
