Announcing Black In National Parks Week!

Announcing Black In National Parks Week!

On August 25, 2020 the National Park Service will celebrate its 104th anniversary. To mark the occasion Nicole Jackson, co-organizer of #BlackBirdersWeek and Next Generation Advisory Council member of the National Parks Conservation Association, has inspired a commemoration to acknowledge the often-overlooked narratives of those who have contributed to more than a century of conscientious public land management. The Joy Trip Project is pleased to announce Black In National Parks Week!

Just remember. In the midst of the global Covid-19 pandemic wear a mask whenever you’re in public. National Park visitor centers require face coverings. Avoid large crowds and social gatherings whenever possible. Exercise good practices of social distancing when on hiking trails, bike paths, picnic areas, beaches and campsites. When you see others, smile with your eyes. Always recreate responsibly!

Black In National Parks Week is part of an ongoing movement to elevate the stories from the Black, Indigenous and People of Color communities on public land and in the environmental conservation movement. Learn about about how you can become involved at http://www.rethinkoutside.org

This event is supported in part by The Sierra Club , Adidas Outdoor  and the National Parks Conservation Association and presented in partnership with the UW-Madison Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies.
