The 2016 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree Tour Album

The 2016 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree Tour Album

The Joy Trip Project has published a small book of photographs depicting the events surrounding the 2016 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree Tour. Although many of these images were widely distributed online via Facebook, Instagram and Twitter I am very happy to be able to share the work of this latest project in printed form. This book in two formats (7X7 and 10X8) is available now at Blurb.com as a lasting reminder of the many special people I had the pleasure to meet and photograph on this wonderful adventure.
In this modern era of electronic media it is always exciting to see the passionate work of artists in print. There is a lasting quality to words and images committed to paper that can never be altered and would be destroyed only through a willful act of violence. Though each copy of a printed book might languish in the obscurity of an indifferent public every volumn will stand as a permanent recollection of a time when team of conscientious individuals came together in order to give a gift of joy to the American people.

Harvested on November 2, 2016 from the Payette National Forest near McCall, Idaho the United States Capitol Christmas Tree traveled more than 3,800 miles to Washington D.C. On this historic journey Choose Outdoors partnered with the U.S. Forest Service, several departments of law enforcement and many private institutions from across the country. This 80-foot Englemann Spruce was delivered to the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol Building on November 28, 2016. Decorated with more than 6,000 ornaments made by the children of Idaho, this magnificent evergreen was officially lit and presented as the “People’s Tree” on December 6, 2016.

Having made more than 30 stops in small communities and big cities over
four weeks of travel on America’s highways, the People’s Tree represents the best wishes and enduring spirit of a nation united in fellowship. As visitors in the tens of thousands came to pay their respects much of the spirit and excitement of this inspiring event was captured in a collection of photographs. This album produced by Choose Outdoors tells their story.
