You gotta love it when “have fun” is written into your job description. Once again the Joy Trip Project has been tapped to manage the social media streams coming out of the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market. After 22 years of attending the largest backcountry recreation trade show in the world it’s kind of nice to dedicate my skills and talents in storytelling toward encouraging and documenting the exciting business of playing outside!
I’ll be kind of the Social Media Master of Ceremonies. In addition to the content you’ll find through the SM channels of the Joy Trip Project you’ll also find photographs, videos and text messages coming through the Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts of Outdoor Retailer. Look for hashtags #ORSHOW and #ORWM14 for the latest updates. If you follow any of these feeds you can stay up to date on many of the exciting events and promotional opportunities happen throughout the week. Can you can also post your pictures and comments to share with our amazing community of outdoor professionals.
We just need to follow a few simple rules
#1 NO SPAM!
We’re only interested in seeing interesting content. Don’t make me sift through a lot of irrelevant or inappropriate nonsense.
#2 Keep it social, not commercial
Send us images and messages that reflect your experience during the show. Don’t load the system down with dozens of product shots and sale fliers. Show us pictures of your smiling customers. Give us your best selfie in your booth. Recommend great meals with a snapshot of your entrée. Then tells us about it on Yelp! We’ll be sure to cross-post the best pictures with links to your social media pages.
#3 Have Fun! Be Creative
With all that’s going on in the outdoor business it’s hard not to take our work seriously, especially while in this high pressure selling environment. But if we each engage the community with the joy and enthusiasm that makes this industry so much fun we’ll have another joyful and successful Outdoor Retailer Winter Market!
